Larry Smith Field, built in 1989, is one of the finest baseball facilities in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and among the top junior college complexes in the state of Illinois. Besides being the home to the Blue Devils, it has also been the site of Region 24 Tournaments and Northern District games.
The field is named after the former Blue Devil coach who retired in 2003 after compiling more than 800 victories in 36 years at the helm. In 2009, Smith was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Hall of Fame. His uniform number, 3, has since been retired.
The dimensions of the natural turf field are: 330 ft. down the foul lines, 375 ft. in the power alleys and 400 ft. to straightaway centerfield. Behind the outfield wall, 135 pine trees were planted to act as a natural batters eye and to add scenic beauty to the baseball complex.
In 2005, Larry Smith Field received many upgrades which included new brick dugouts with storage, brick backstop/netting, press box, sound system and chair back seating. Also included in the upgrades were new restrooms and a full service concession stand.
Outlining the patio next to the concession stand is a decorative collection of bricks where Blue Devils past and present can leave their legacy at Larry Smith Field.
