Al Coers began his career at Kaskaskia College in August 1988 teaching Mathematics and Physics.  During his twelve year tenure, Al was a dedicated instructor who consistently sought additional educational success in order to better serve his students.   Al was instrumental in implementing technology into the Mathematics curriculum, he served several years as the College Bowl sponsor, and actively worked with the Tech Prep Consortium to implement and expand an integrated curriculum project. 

A devoted educator, Al was always willing to provide tutoring assistance to students that needed additional help.  From 1988–2000, Al also acted as an official scorekeeper at the men’s and women’s home games and voluntarily traveled to many away games to include the 2002 Region 24 Tournament and three national tournaments.  Al has over fifty-one years of experience as an official scorekeeper, devoting his time to community athletics. Al began scorekeeping in his senior year of high school and continues even after his retirement from Kaskaskia College. 

Al also continues to teach Math courses part time for the college and remains active in the community through his work with Habitat for Humanity, serving as an official scorekeeper for two local high schools and Kaskaskia College. Al is also a member of the Kaskaskia College Foundation Trustee. 

In addition, Al has been integral in the creation of the Kaskaskia College Sports Association, serving as its Chairman for the first three years.  Because of his leadership, the KCSA has become a very successful support organization for the athletic program. through significant contributions to the development of the college and athletic programincluding the purchase of buses, scholarship opportunities and sizeable donations to the Sports and Wellness campaign.
