Cathy Karrick served as Head Coach for the volleyball program
from 1988 to 1994. In 1989 and 1990, the Blue Angels
Volleyball team record was 31-11 and 31-6, the first back to back,
over thirty points winning seasons in Kaskaskia College history,
establishing a KC record. Cathy has coached
ten All-Conference players, including the 1990 Most Valuable
Player, and six All Region players.
Under her leadership, the 1990 Blue Angels Volleyball team
placed 3rd in the Region 24 State Tournament, a first for
Kaskaskia College Volleyball program, and tied for 1st place in the
Great Rivers All Conference, also a college first. This
team was also the Parkland College Tournament Champions beating
three nationally-ranked teams; four Blue Angels players were
selected to the Great Rivers Athletic Conference All Conference
team and Region 24 First team. Cathy was honored as the 1990
Great Rivers Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the
Year. In 1992, the Blue Angels team finished
2nd in the conference. As one of Kaskaskia
College’s outstanding coaches, Cathy compiled a record of
131-92 and received a Tachakara Victory Club award in
1992 for 100 career victories.
As Cathy’s opportunities to promote the college took her
career in a different direction, she has remained a strong
supporter of KC Athletics. Cathy serves as Director of Public
Information and Coordinator of the KC Sports Association, an
organization she has been involved in from inception, that has
raised over $400,000 in support of Kaskaskia College athletic
programs. Cathy also supports and creates many special
functions and programs that benefit the college and students to
include the “Adopt An Athlete” program.
