Dottie Smith graduated from Blackburn College in 1960 and
was a member of both the women's basketball and tennis teams.
Dottie became part of the Kaskaskia College family in 1966 when
Coach Larry Smith took on the position of Head Men's Baseball
Coach. Dottie was a devoted wife and mother to her own family
and to the athletes she so readily adopted. From 1966 until
2002, Dottie was without question Kaskaskia College’s #1
Fan.
Dottie was a dedicated advocate of the baseball and
basketball teams during her husband’s distinguished
thirty-six year coaching career at Kaskaskia College. During this
time, she rarely missed a game at home or on the road. A integral supporter of Kaskaskia College Athletics and
devoted to the well being of student athletes, Dottie prepared
meals for the baseball team to take with them to away games and
always provided healthy snacks and treats for both home and away
games. As a mother figure to the students while they were away from
home, she laundered their uniforms with care so that the teams
would always represent Kaskaskia College with a spotless
image.
In 1977, Dottie Smith chose to return to a teaching career
at Willow Grove Grade School in Centralia, Illinois; positively
influencing the lives of other children in the community. Her
legacy to Kaskaskia College and the community was her exemplary
enthusiasm, dedication and caring nature.
