Bill Hawley’s name is synonymous with south central Illinois sports. Bill graduated from Odin High School and attended Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. Bill was a teacher and coach at Salem Community High School and has been the sports broadcaster for WJBD radio in Salem, where he has also been the voice of the Salem Wildcats, since 1971. Bill also served as the voice of the Kaskaskia College Blue Devils and Blue Angels, calling some of the most memorable games in the history of both teams.
Bill's service to Kaskaskia College runs deep. Bill
has served as a board member since 1986 providing leadership at the
local, state and national levels and has promoted the community
college mission and philosophy while assisting to make Kaskaskia
College a world class institution of higher education serving an
enrollment in excess of 12,000 students.
During his time on the Board of Trustees, Kaskaskia College
has experienced a significant increase in the quantity and
diversity of athletic programs offered at the college as well as
the development and expansion of athletic training
facilities.
Bill also has the unique distinction of being a 1998 honoree for the Salem Community High School Hall of Fame, a 1995 honoree for the Kaskaskia College Athletic Hall of Fame and a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Bill is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of
Trustees for Kaskaskia College and is the college's representative
for the Kaskaskia College Foundation. Additionally, Bill is
the manager of Wilson and Wilson Monument Company in Odin and
serves as a member of the Salem Community High School Hall of Fame
Committee and the Kaskaskia College Athletic Hall of Fame
Committee.
