Blue Devils Continue to Improve

Blue Devils supporting cancer awareness month.

A hop, a skip, and a jump into post season for the Kaskaskia College men's cross country team. The Blue Devils showed improvements in the last regular season meet at the Hillsboro Golf Cosure. The efforts were before our eyes. Sometimes, there is improvement for 2 miles, sometimes for 3 miles, but success in the sport is measured when you cross the finish line. The weather great, the course was marked and ready for the racers. Working from the back to front of the group Owen Huelsmann was the number 2 pusher for the Devils and in front of him was Daniel Obernuefemann as the number one pusher. The number five counter Branson Pappas, Branson was tough the first section of the race, but hit a wall in the middle section. This brings us to the number four and number three counters, at one point we had Jack, Jack, Daniel, and Branson working off each other, as the (I want to say dust settled, but this is a well maintained golf course, so no dust) grass blades bent to the force of the many footstep of the racers. Jack Walters was the third counter followed by Jack Shelton. Side note-Captain Jack was sailing the ship that day! (Finally). This brings us to our number two guy, the one and only Jonathan Holthaus, five seconds, how long is five seconds? Five seconds is what JH needed to break that 30 minute mark.................or I guess six seconds to get to 29:59...........two more races. Okay this finally gets us to our number one guy, just a couple of hints, he loves trees, he loves music from the 1960's? Andrew Latham he crossed the finish line in more or less 29 minutes flat, like JH a couple more seconds makes the result even more exciting. You can check the results below, if you want fact check me, but I know we were third as a team, with Greenville and Nationally ranked Joliet College ahead of us. This is part I'm too lazy to look up, I think we were third out of eight men's team? As a coach, don't laugh, I like the efforts, I like what I'm seeing. Do we need improvement? Yes! Did we have a total team effort one to seven? No! But we knocked on that door, oh so lightly....but we are ready to do some kicking in of that door in the next few weeks!!!
