MAYCI WILDERMAN PLEDGES TO BE AN ANGEL

PIASA, IL --  Southwestern Piasa High School senior, Mayci Wilderman, has signed an NJCAA Letter of Intent to continue her softball and education for the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels.  Mayci will bring even more athleticism to an anticipated dynamic roster for the 2020-21 season.  Although, she is undecided on her major, she is also expected to help bolster the team's overall academic standing, bringing an unblemished GPA (4.0/4.0) into her freshman year.  Mayci is the daughter of Chris and Michelle Wilderman of Brighton, Illinois.

Albeit, an exciting step towards the next chapter of Miss Wilderman's life, she and her SW Piasa softball teammates have unfinished business to accomplish in their upcoming season.  After ending last season with a 24-3 record and a few runs shy of a State berth, the highly touted Birds, enter this season poised to fulfill their destiny.  SW Piasa coach, Peg Mitchell, indicated that this rise in her program's recent successes really rekindled during Mayci's freshman year, and that this season, the entire team is determined and focused on improving upon the last few years that were cut short. During this reign of dominance, Mayci has been a 3X First-Team All South Central Conference centerfielder, and was an Illinois Coaches Association All State selection her junior year.  Mayci also plays elite travelball for the well established, Bluff City organization.  Aside from being a multi-sport (volleyball) athlete, Mayci is also involved with her high school's Spanish Club and is an National Honor Society inductee.

Coach Barnes reflects on his new addition. "Honestly, I felt strongly that we had achieved our goals with this recruiting class...then Mayci came along. I had held onto a few spots for a couple of ringers, and we definitely got one in Mayci. To pick up this type of athlete, when we did, is a great surprise!  Mayci will fit nicely in the outfield, with returners, Regina Dedecker (Carbondale), Jaidyn Ackerman (Greenville), and newcomers, Lauren Brown (Jerseyville), Ivy Smart (Marion), and Taylor Friederich (Mascoutah). There will be some competition out there in the grass, but as I've mentioned in previous articles, that component of competition is very important in creating the best team as possible.  Mayci is a true outfielder and I am confident that her experience and competitive nature will serve her well.  In addition to her defense, she is listed at 5'11", is intelligent/softball saavy, has speed, can hit with pop, and even pitch with above average velocity...She is a 5 tool athlete! All she needs now is that State Title...no pressure!"
