Blue Devils At The Bearcat Invite.

The race is a foot!

Mother Nature won the first 2 and half hours of the meet. The schedule start of 3 o'clock, soon became a 5:30 start time, due to possible storms heading in from the south west. When dealing with potential storms, best to  error on the side of safety. The McKendree staff made the proper decision and choices when dealing with an outside event. Both the Blue Devils and the Blue Angels had a large following of family and fans, including the Red Bud High School boys and girls cross country teams. With warm ups starting at 5 and race time at 5:30, Mother Nature decided to rain, but hey, rain doesn't stop a race! So at 5:30 the gun fired and the men were off. KC's number 1, Nick Fehr led the charge for the Devils, over the soggy former golf course, footing was not the best. Nick covered the 8k distance in a time of 28 minutes and 21 seconds. Nick Zwilling was number 2 for the men, having not race the prior week, due to leg issues. Nick came across the finish line in 29 minutes and 4 seconds. Number 3 for the Devils was freshman Jack Shelton with his career best time of 29:57. Jack put together a great race for only his 3rd 8K. Christian Rees was number 4 in a time of 30 minutes and 8 seconds. The final counter was Daniel Obernuefemann also with a career best time of 31 minutes and 6 seconds. Ostin Habeck was the 6th Blue Devil to cross the finish line in a time of 31:36. Owen Huelsmann put together his best time in 32:27. As was the storyline of the day Tejas Zala improved his time, with a time of 32:56! Conner Garsnett raced in a time of 34:27. "When you figure in the warming up, going to sit on a bus for most of an hour, then only warming up for 30 minutes, running on a wet soggy course. The men had a great race, with so many personal best times. We had goals of getting our average time for 5 under 30 minutes and we accomplished that. The attitudes were good, we all had somewhere we were planning on being with this short trip, dinners, dates, and video games, but guys took care of business. Was great to see so many personal bests!"
