Blue Devils Racing at Heartland Invite

Blue Devils at Heartland Invite
Blue Devil

The Blue Devils were 6th as a team and 5th in the NJCAA divison. There were 6 NJCAA Nationally ranked teams in this race, including the 23rd ranked Blue Devils. Racing a different strategy Nick Fehr backed off his start, only to move up over 20 spots to finish strong in 23rd place to earn one of the top 25 T-shirts. Nick Zwilling was the 2nd racer for the Blue Devils. The team's top 5 average time was 30.27, which was better than the team right in front of them, as was the overall average time of 2:32.19. To most this means nothing, but when only Fehr was below the 30 minute mark, that is a very postive number. Here are the numbers: Zwilling 30:17; Christian Rees 30:33; Daniel Obernuefemann 30:55 (PR); Jack Shelton 31:32. That pack time is 1 minute and 25 seconds, 2-5. Then Ostin Habeck was at 31:47. Owen Huelsmann continues to improve with his time of 32:26. All of this in the scheme of the world of cross country is good news. Then when you factor in EVERYONE on all the teams times were slower due to the heat and the type of course (hilly, the start is an incline), this says good and postive things about where we are at mid season. What are the keys for continued success for both squards? Staying healthy, properly fueling your bodies by eating and eating good food, by staying hydrated AND BY GETTING PROPER REST!!!! (and doing your homework and going to class). Stay focused.
