NJCAA Dll Championship

Start of NJCAA Dll Championship

Traveling for a day and a half and over 800 miles to complete at the NJCAA Dll Championships was well worth the bus time. The trip was breath taking, traveling through the mountains of West Virginia on the way to Richmond, VA. Luckly the course at Green Pole Park was flat. The tempertures were perfect and conditions were great except for a few wind gusts. (Runner don't mind the cold or the wet, but do not care for the wind!) The goal was to improve on the final poll ranking of 16th for the Blue Angels. The gun sounded, the 26 full teams and a dozen more colleges represented by individuals  were heading down the wide straight away. The Angels came out of box 10 of 40 with Summer Chelf and Megan Cook leading the charge, with Cayla Krueger, and Maggie Fitzgerald  in hot pursuit. Summer and Megan maintained the front two spots for the Blue Angels with Cayla and Maggie jockeying back and forth during the race. In the teams 5th spot was Mya Albers having her best race of the season, followed by Macie Hargis also putting together her best race of her career. When the 6 KC ladies had cross the finish line and team totals were posted, the Angels finished in 15th with a total of 405 points. Summer finished in 20:41, Megan in 21:41, Cayla 21:50, Maggie 21:56, Mya 22:48 and Macie at 23:31. Lansing CC took the team honors followed by fellow Region 24 school the Heartland Hawks taking 2nd. "The ladies were as focus as I had seen them all year, they handled the pressure of the big meet like seasoned racers. Summer went out fast and gave it her all. Megan, unfortunately was not 100%, but battled through and gave all she had as well. Actually all the Blue Angels left it all on the course, as Cayla and Maggie pushed to their limits, as did Mya and Macie. I was proud of the whole group, they came ready to race. That is all you can ask as a coach."
